VILLA THAI

I have only visited Villa
Thai once. It's location
near to Kadriorg really does
keep it off many people
radar when deciding where to
eat. Although it it easy to
find being visible from
Narva Mnt when standing
outside the Baptist Church
or Ballys Casino, both
prominent landmarks.
The restaurant has been
reasonably well themed and
has a pleasant sun room with
a few tables that tends to
fill the fastest. I have
thought at length about how
I would categorise it and I
think "nice" is the most
fitting. First impressions
are good but there are a few
details that are less than
perfect on closer
inspection.
Service was good (prompt,
well natured and un fussy)
in spite of my soup being
forgotten and English is no
problem as with almost all
restaurants and certainly
any decent restaurant in
Tallinn.
The name Villa Thai is in
fact slightly misleading.
The menu isn't entirely
Thai. Whilst Thai cuisine
would be described by many
as having its own set of
characteristic but with a
notable Indian/Chinese
fusion Villa Thai has a very
separate and not
insignificant Indian Menu as
well as the Usual Thai
choices.
For the purposes of this
review I stuck to the Thai
menu as this is where Villa
Thai distinguishes itself as
the only Thai Restaurant in
town.
As for food and prices, well
I have to say that both
were "quite" good. The food
was enjoyable and the prices
acceptable from a value
point of view but both would
be difficult to write home
about.
Just like eating at a
Chinese restaurant the best
thing to do here is come
with a group of friends and
enjoy sampling from a
variety of dishes.
All in all, I would like to
eat here again but probably
only in the above suggested
format.
Fellow expats who have eaten
here more often than I have
generally found Villa Thai a
praise worthy establishment.
