SUSHI HOUSE

Sushi House is a restaurant
that comes in at the top end
of the crowd. As a self
proclaimed
Japanese/International
fusion restaurant it does a
great job of giving you at
least what you would expect
and maybe what you had hoped
for.
The restaurant is great. In
in a well renovated and
stylishly designed central
Old Town building with an
interesting history. It is a
place to impress but doesn't
exude pretentiousness. The
service to was upmarket,
attentive but not fussy.
Presentation was refined and
handled with elegance. The
whole ambiance was conducive
to being able to enjoy a
relaxed but maybe slightly
decadent meal. Unless of
course if you use the
bathroom and have vertigo! -
Worth checking out!
For the purpose of my review
I stuck to the restaurant's
name sake and ordered a
"Fusion Choice" and "Degustation
set" with a total of 29
pieces of sushi.
I'm not a sushi expert but I
have eaten in sushi
restaurants of varying
quality in several countries
(unfortunately not including
Japan) so have a decent
frame of reference.
One challenge that any
Estonian restaurant has is
the range of fish on offer.
Tallinn, although a costal
city isn't knows for its
fish variety or cost. To
anyone with some some sushi
experience this will be
reasonably noticeable.
Having said that, for what
was on offer I was not
disappointed. The whole lot
got polished off double time
with enthusiasm. Especially
the complimentary seed/nut
appetisers - very enjoyable.
Japanese food anywhere is
rarely a budget option but
in Tallinn it seems to push
this rule. Single pieces
(not whole rolls) of sushi
come in at around £2/$4 a
go. Don't expect to eat here
(or any other sushi
restaurant in Tallinn) for
less than £20/$40 a person.
This is the absolute minimum
and without any alcohol.
Check the restaurant's
website out for local
currency pricing and the
whole menu.
Final verdict - 2 out of 3
reviewers would eat there
again, but reserve it for
special occasions.
